The Verdict

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. (John 3:19 NIV)

Turn off that light!

I love a dark room – for sleeping, that is. Some people can sleep in any environment. Not me. It has to be dark. Never been a daytime nap person because there’s something about the light that keeps me awake. Maybe I’m in the minority – who knows? But stop and think about this in light of this verse: When the light was turned on in the person of Jesus, some preferred to stay in the darkness. Why? Their deeds were evil.

Light exposes things. When you take a beacon of light and shine it into a dark corner, you can see things you wouldn’t otherwise be able to see. Darkness allows us to keep corners of our life hidden. It allows us to keep things private and not risk exposure that might actually force us to deal with the secret dirt that is building in our lives. Darkness fuels secrecy and makes it easy for us to stay spiritually asleep.

It’s easier that way.

We love easy.

We love simple.

We love things that allow us to stay under the covers.

Maybe it’s time for us to fall in love with the light. Maybe, just maybe exposing the hidden things of our life to the light would open up a door for wholeness and living that we never thought were possible. Maybe, just maybe we should see what a life fully awakened to Jesus looks like.

Turn on that light!

Sleeping in the dark is best, and, according to some, sleeping in light can kill you.

Yes, I know I’m a night owl, but I’m working on it!
